What is Alpha-Gal Syndrome?

Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS) is a tick-borne allergy triggered by a bite from the Lone Star tick. It causes a reaction to alpha-gal, a sugar found in most mammal-derived ingredients—including red meat, dairy, and even some medications and personal care products.

Reactions can be delayed and range from mild to severe. Because alpha-gal can show up in unexpected places, managing AGS requires careful ingredient checks and support from informed healthcare providers.
